On November 12th, 2024, I had the privilege of visiting the "THUMBNAIL 2024" Photography Exhibition, which was conducted by Infopark and the Infopark Photography Club (IPC). The exhibition, held at Thapasya Hall, was an immersive experience that showcased the incredible creativity of talented colleagues and techie photographers. The event was open to the public from November 11 to 15, and I was eager to witness the range of photographs captured by the best minds in the field.
Arriving at the exhibition with my faculty members, Jijin Kurian Sir and Sraddha Miss, as well as my college mates, I felt a sense of excitement in the air. The atmosphere at Thapasya Hall was buzzing with curiosity and appreciation. As soon as I stepped in, I was greeted by a diverse collection of photographs. From landscapes to street photography, and from intimate portraits to abstract visuals, every photograph had its own story to tell. Each piece radiated the photographer’s unique perspective, creativity, and technical prowess. It was clear that this exhibition was more than just a display of photos; it was a celebration of vision and talent.
As I wandered through the halls, each corner seemed to hold something new and captivating. It was an overwhelming experience to take in the variety of subjects, techniques, and styles that were on display. One photograph that stood out among the many others was titled Silent Velocity, captured by Liju Gopalakrishnan. This image left a lasting impression on me, and I couldn’t help but admire the sheer beauty and precision behind it.
The photograph was a black-and-white shutter speed shot of a Royal Enfield Bullet speeding through the iconic streets of Fort Kochi. The blur of the bike's motion, frozen in time against the stillness of the surroundings, perfectly captured the essence of movement and energy. The decision to capture this moment in black and white added a layer of timelessness to the shot, giving it a classic, almost cinematic quality. The photograph’s composition was stunning, with the blur of motion drawing your eyes to the bike while the sharpness of the background created a sense of contrast and depth.
What struck me the most about Silent Velocity was not just the technical brilliance behind the use of shutter speed but also the feeling of freedom and dynamism it conveyed. The photograph seemed to embody the spirit of exploration, something I personally resonated with, especially since I love to travel and capture the energy of my surroundings through my camera lens. The moment captured in this photo was not just of a bike, but of life in motion, the thrill of the ride, and the vibrant streets of Fort Kochi all wrapped into one.
The equipment used for this photo was the Nikon Z6, a mirrorless camera that I’ve heard a lot about but had never experienced firsthand. The sharpness of the photo and the way it handled low light made it clear that this was an exceptional piece of gear, and it was fascinating to see how the choice of equipment could elevate a photographer’s vision to such heights.
As I continued exploring the exhibition, I couldn’t help but reflect on how much I have learned as a photography student. This exhibition offered a fantastic opportunity to witness professional-level work and inspired me to continue honing my skills. Being surrounded by such talent encouraged me to think outside the box, experiment with new techniques, and perhaps, most importantly, to find my own unique perspective.
Spending the day at THUMBNAIL 2024 was an enriching experience, not only because of the inspiring work displayed but also due to the camaraderie I shared with my faculty members and friends. Our conversations about the various photographs and the techniques behind them added a new dimension to the experience. It was heartening to see how these exhibitions serve as a platform for photographers to connect, share their work, and celebrate the art of photography.
If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend visiting such exhibitions. They offer a deeper appreciation of the creativity and skill involved in photography, and they can provide you with a wealth of inspiration to apply to your own work. The THUMBNAIL 2024 exhibition is a perfect example of how technology, creativity, and passion come together to create something truly beautiful. For me, it was a day well spent—one that I won’t forget anytime soon.
