From Idea to Reality: The Evolution of Our Installation Design

When we first started brainstorming for our group project, we had a pretty clear vision of what we wanted our installation to look like. The idea was to create a structure with a simple cylindrical shape—clean, classic, and straightforward. But as we dug into the details and started bouncing ideas around, we realized that our initial concept had some serious limitations.

One of the biggest issues was stability. Cylinders are great in theory, but when we considered the scale of our project and the materials we were planning to use, we saw that it might not hold up as well as we'd hoped. Plus, the cylindrical shape didn’t offer much flexibility for the kind of visual elements we wanted to incorporate.

So, we went back to the drawing board—literally. Our team sketched out different shapes, experimenting with angles and sides to find a design that could meet our requirements for both aesthetics and functionality. After some trial and error, we found our answer in a hexagon.

The hexagonal shape was a game-changer. Not only did it provide the stability we needed, but it also opened up new possibilities for the look and feel of the installation. With its six sides, we could play with various elements, like lights and panels, in ways that just weren’t possible with a cylinder. It also gave us more flexibility in terms of size and scale, allowing us to expand or contract the design as needed.

Once we settled on the hexagon, the ideas really started flowing. We spent hours sketching different elements, imagining how they would fit together, and playing with proportions to get everything just right. It was amazing to see how a simple change in shape could spark so much creativity and collaboration within our team.
