The challenge is to conceptualize and design the brand’s vision through the lens of a unique photography style, each with a distinct approach. The task involves capturing the fashion line in a way that showcases the brand’s essence while reflecting an individual perspective.
Crafting a Unique Brand
Pin of Soul is a global fashion brand that brings world-style fashion through Indian craftsmanship. By blending traditional Indian techniques with contemporary global trends, we offer unique, high-quality pieces that appeal to both local and international markets. Each design reflects the fusion of cultures, with a focus on sustainability and ethical sourcing. Pin of Soul celebrates luxury, elegance, and innovation, creating fashion that transcends borders and tells a story of craftsmanship, heritage, and style. From India to the world, we provide distinctive, trendsetting fashion that embodies the soul of global culture, all while supporting local artisans and makers.

Behind the Scenes: My Studio Shoot Experience
The studio has always fascinated me—a place where creativity and technique come together. My recent project shoot at our college was no exception. The experience was nothing short of enlightening.
For the shoot, I had the pleasure of working with some incredible individuals. Adithyan D N (BA CD - Game Art and Design), Prathyash Reji (BA CD - Animation), and Vaishnavi (B.Voc Jain) stepped in as my models, each bringing their unique personality to the frame. Their patience and enthusiasm made the process a joy.
To elevate my concepts, I sought help from our fashion students, who assisted as stylists for a few shoots. Their eye for detail and understanding of trends added a professional touch. My classmate Hamdan also pitched in, making sure everything ran smoothly.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without our mentor, Jijin Sir. His guidance was invaluable, helping me fine-tune the technical aspects and offering creative insights that shaped the final output.
This project taught me the importance of collaboration. From lighting setups to experimenting with human forms and styles, the studio became my playground for learning. Balancing creativity with academic precision, I discovered how much I enjoy storytelling through images.
This shoot wasn’t just about creating visuals—it was about growing as an artist. I walked away with a deeper appreciation for teamwork and the magic of the studio.
Capturing Elegance: Outdoor Fashion Shoot at Fort Kochi
On January 14, 2025, I embarked on an outdoor fashion shoot for my project at the iconic Fort Kochi. The location, with its rustic charm and timeless beauty, provided the perfect backdrop for showcasing style and creativity. Shooting in the early morning light added a soft, golden hue to the visuals, enhancing the overall aesthetic.
For this project, I collaborated with Naveen Rajesh (BA CD - Graphic Design), who modeled effortlessly, bringing life to each frame. His adaptability and natural flair made every shot stand out. From striking poses against the historic walls to blending into the lively street scenes, Naveen’s presence truly complemented the theme of the shoot.
The early morning atmosphere was serene yet vibrant. The streets slowly came alive as vendors began setting up their stalls, and the sea breeze added a refreshing element to the experience. It was fascinating to capture the interplay between fashion and the heritage-rich surroundings of Fort Kochi.
This shoot was as much about storytelling as it was about fashion. Every frame aimed to merge contemporary styles with the classic vibe of the location. From experimenting with angles to balancing natural and artificial light, the session was a creative challenge that pushed me to think on my feet.
Reflecting on the shoot, I’m grateful for the opportunity to explore Fort Kochi’s charm through my lens. It reinforced my love for outdoor photography and the endless possibilities it offers for blending art and culture.
Our Studio Shoot Equipment: A Glimpse Into Our Setup
Our studio shoot equipment is carefully selected to ensure high-quality, professional results. We primarily use the Sony A7 Mark IV, a mirrorless camera known for its impressive image resolution, dynamic range, and versatile features that adapt to various types of shoots. Paired with this, our go-to lenses are the 24-70mm and 70-200mm, offering exceptional flexibility for wide-angle shots, zoomed portraits, and anything in between.
Lighting plays a crucial role in achieving the right mood and clarity. For that, we depend on two Godox AD200 strobes, which provide reliable and powerful lighting. We always use softboxes to soften the light and maintain a professional look, ensuring the subject's details are captured with precision. Alongside, we incorporate diffusers that help in creating smooth and even lighting effects, reducing harsh shadows and producing an ideal tone for every shot.
In addition to lighting, reflectors are a key component of our toolkit. They allow us to bounce light onto the subject, filling in shadows and creating a balanced look. For backgrounds, we have an array of options, including white, grey, pink, and black backdrops. These versatile colors provide a clean, minimalist canvas that can highlight the subject and complement the overall shoot style.
All these elements work together to create the perfect setup for fashion, product, or portrait photography. With the right equipment, we can capture each moment with the clarity and artistry it deserves, giving our clients a flawless final product.
Fashion Photography Studio Lighting: My Perspective
Lighting is the soul of fashion photography. It transforms a simple shot into an evocative image, setting the mood and highlighting the intricate details of the fashion pieces. From my perspective, the key to creating powerful fashion photos lies in mastering the balance of light and shadow.
In my studio, I rely heavily on soft, diffused lighting to give my subjects a flattering, natural glow. I often use softboxes to soften the light, which helps reduce harsh shadows and creates a smooth, even look on the model’s skin. The softbox's wide coverage is perfect for full-body shots or capturing flowing garments, allowing the light to wrap around the subject.
Another technique I frequently use is the key light and fill light setup. The key light, usually positioned at an angle, acts as the main light source, emphasizing the shape and texture of the clothing. To balance it, I position a fill light opposite to soften shadows and prevent the image from looking too stark.
I also love experimenting with backlighting to create dramatic, high-fashion shots. By placing a light behind the model, I can add a beautiful halo effect, highlighting the silhouette and creating depth. Reflectors come in handy to bounce light onto specific areas, such as the face or fabric, further enhancing the details.
For me, lighting in fashion photography is not just technical; it’s an art form. With the right setup, lighting becomes a tool that elevates the entire shoot, capturing the essence of style and the story behind every outfit.
Crafting the Concept
Evolution of Fashion Photography
Fashion photography began in the mid-19th century with the rise of portrait photography. Early pioneers, like Adolphe Braun, began capturing fashion through studio portraits of clothing and models. However, it wasn't until the early 20th century that fashion photography truly took off, with figures like Edward Steichen revolutionizing the industry. Steichen’s work with Vogue and Vanity Fair brought a new artistic approach to fashion, combining portraiture with high fashion.
In the 1940s and 1950s, photographers like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn pushed the boundaries further by incorporating movement, drama, and storytelling into their images. These photographers set the stage for modern fashion photography, blending art with advertising.
By the 1980s and 1990s, photographers such as Helmut Newton and Mario Sorrenti brought a more provocative and edgy style to the field. The rise of digital photography in the 2000s further transformed the industry, allowing for even more creative freedom and accessibility.
Today, fashion photography remains a dynamic field, blending commercial, artistic, and cultural influences to represent evolving trends and societal values. It continues to shape how fashion is perceived and consumed globally.
Casual Bohemian Look
For this look, I chose a balance of urban edge and bohemian ease to capture the essence of modern street style with a laid-back vibe. The printed, open-collar shirt with bold patterns emphasizes individuality and creativity, while the olive green cargo pants inject a utilitarian, rugged feel. Beige slip-on clogs anchor the outfit in comfort, making it versatile for casual moments. This combination speaks to a trend-conscious audience, with a focus on effortless style.

For this look, I aimed to create a smart-casual aesthetic with a modern, minimalistic twist, ideal for semi-formal occasions or lifestyle portraits. The navy-blue polo shirt maintains a clean, versatile appeal, while offering a relaxed sophistication. The light gray, slim-fit trousers add a touch of refinement, subtly elevating the look from casual to smart-casual.
Accessories like the sunglasses introduce an edgy, stylish flair, while the bracelet and watch provide a personal touch without overpowering the outfit. Neatly styled hair and a well-maintained beard complete the look, emphasizing a sharp, clean aesthetic.

For this look, I wanted to capture a bold, youthful streetwear-inspired aesthetic with a focus on vibrant colors and relaxed, comfortable style. The bright blue jacket takes center stage, serving as the statement piece and adding a sporty pop of color to the outfit. Underneath, the neutral-toned graphic tee keeps the vibe casual while balancing the jacket’s intensity.

This look embraces a casual yet trendy style, featuring a tie-dye t-shirt that draws on both bohemian and retro influences. Tie-dye has become a key element in modern streetwear and casual fashion, making it a perfect fit for today’s relaxed yet stylish aesthetic.
The photograph utilizes dramatic lighting, with backlighting creating a halo effect around the subject. The dark background adds contrast, ensuring the outfit and subject are the focus of the shot. This high-contrast visual approach enhances the boldness of the look, making it ideal for editorial or creative portrait photography.

This look embraces a formal yet minimalist aesthetic, centered around a black satin or silk shirt. Bringing the Vision to Life
Post-Production Magic: Lightroom and Photoshop for Fashion Photography
The magic of photography doesn’t end when you press the shutter button. Post-production is where the final image truly comes to life, and in my fashion photography workflow, I rely heavily on Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to perfect my shots.
Once the shoot is done, I start by importing my images into Lightroom, which is my go-to tool for color grading. Lightroom’s powerful tools allow me to adjust the exposure, contrast, and color tones to give my images the perfect mood. Whether it’s enhancing warm tones for a golden-hour effect or cooling down the color palette for a sleek, editorial look, Lightroom offers precise control over each element of the image. The ability to adjust individual colors and work with HSL sliders ensures that the fashion pieces pop while keeping the skin tones natural. I also use the presets feature to streamline my process, applying a consistent style across a series of images.
After color grading, I move over to Photoshop for more intricate touch-ups. Photoshop is where I focus on refining the finer details. Whether it's removing blemishes, fixing stray hairs, or smoothing out wrinkles in the clothing, Photoshop offers precision editing that Lightroom just can't match. I also use dodge and burn techniques to enhance the highlights and shadows, adding depth and dimension to the images. Retouching skin and fine-tuning the overall composition help create a flawless, polished final image.
Both Lightroom and Photoshop complement each other perfectly. While Lightroom handles the overall color grading and mood setting, Photoshop allows me to fine-tune the details and ensure that every shot is as visually stunning as possible.
From Raw to Refined: A Post-Production Journey
